It looks like wedding bells might not ring for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth after all. Just when it seemed like the on again, off again couple was back on, Miley’s dad hinted otherwise during a recent interview with ABC’s Nightline.
Billy Ray Cyrus appeared on ABC last night to promote his new memoir, Hillbilly Heart. Though he didn’t say the engagement was off, the country singer did admit that he, like most of us, was a little confused about his daughter’s love life. “I don’t know,” Billy Ray answered when asked about his daughter’s impending nuptials. “I know as I was writing a book, I wanted to keep that particular moment [Miley’s wedding] as open-ended as possible. I didn’t know the answer,” he explained.
His doubt could have something to do with rumors that Liam cheated on Miley with Mad Men actress January Jones. Or, it might be a result of Miley’s alleged partying. The former Disney star even took off her engagement ring last month. Despite claims that she removed the ring to have it repaired, tabloids charged that there was trouble in paradise.
Most recently though, reports say that the young lovers have worked everything out. But Billy Ray isn’t so sure that he’ll walk his daughter down the aisle any time soon. “They’re young, they’re kids,” he said. “The great news is they’re great friends, they’re really good friends. I play it by ear, I know whatever’s meant to be that’s the way it’s going to happen.”
And so the cycle of uncertainty continues. If nothing else, Miley, 20, and Liam, 23, are living proof that young love is nothing if not unpredictable.
