Nurse Gives Strangers Information About Kate Middleton’s Condition During Prank Call

Australian radio hosts placed a prank call to London’s King Edward VII Hospital were pregnant Kate Middleton is being treated for Hyperemesis gravidarum (extreme morning sickness).
Mel Greig and Michael Christian from The Summer 30 program on Sydney’s 2Day FM radio station used a flimsy ruse about being Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles asking about Middleton’s condition. They were immediately given confidential details by a nurse on Middleton’s ward.
The nurse told the hosts: “She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night. She’s been given some fluids, she’s stable at the moment.” About visiting hours, the hots were told: “I would suggest that any time after nine o’clock will be suitable to visit. We’ll be getting her freshened up.” Here’s the audio from the DJs’ YouTube account.
The hospital has reacted: “King Edward VII’s Hospital Sister Agnes can confirm that an Australian radio station made a hoax call to the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning. This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII’s Hospital deeply regrets this incident.”
“This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore,” hospital chief executive John Lofthouse said in the statement. “We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols.”
A hospital source added: “There were some very sick people on Kate’s ward and prank calls in the middle of the night are not appreciated.”
