Contrived American Idol Drama: Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey “Just Don’t Like Each Other”

It had been rumoured for weeks that Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban were the front runners to fill the remaining seats on American Idol. And, today, Minaj and Urban have finally been confirmed.
As of last week, the only confirmed judge was Mariah Carey, who joked to TMZ.com cameras recently that she could judge the show on her own (that’s after her husband drastically over-estimated her worth to the show at “$40 million” when she’s earning $18 million; compared to the $20 million Idol threw at Katy Perry). Then Idol changed its mind and reinstated Randy Jackson as judge after demoting him to mentor. And they finally signed Urban and Minaj, even though it’s clear Carey doesn’t want the competition from the latter. Moreover, opined TMZ a few weeks ago, perhaps racist viewers would turn off in droves with this panel (three Black judges).
Judging started Monday and the first official photos of the panel have Carey and Minaj sitting/ standing apart and not acknowledging each other. And, because it needs viewers, producers are already contriving drama leaked from “on set sources.”
Mariah Carey wasted no time proving what [TMZ] told you two weeks ago. There’s only room for one diva on American Idol.
Carey and Nicki Minaj went at it during the first Idol taping Sunday in New York City. When Nicki started critiquing a contestant, Mariah would interrupt; not once, but many times. Each time Mariah interrupted, Nicki fought back by loudly talking over Mariah.
One Idol spy said Mariah and Nicki tried to cover their disdain for each other but everyone saw through it, adding, “These girls just don’t like each other.” – via TMZ.
TMZ also notes that Carey allegedly hung up the phone when informed another high-profile woman would be on the panel; to sign Carey, Idol lied at the time and promised she’d be the only woman on the panel.
