Why Did Westboro Baptist Church Call Taylor Swift a “Whore”?
June 29, 2013 by Mike Siegel
Many people may love and adore Taylor Swift, but she definitely has her haters (haters is a very loose term here).
According to Radar Online, the 23-year-old singer and songwriter is being chosen by Westboro Baptist Church, the infamous 40-member church centered in Topeka, Kansas, as their latest victim. Ben Phelps, the church’s leader, told Radar Online that they think Swift is “a whore” and “the whorish face of doomed America,” among other wonderful nicknames. The hate that the 40 members have for the singer stems from her lack of promoting their “Christian” ideals, as she is “widely loved” and has “huge approval ratings.” With such an influence on the youth of America, the church believes that Swift has failed to teach, or more like preach, about “God’s standards.” Since when was Swift a priest? Oh, right. She’s not.
The WBC urges Swift to turn around her seemingly promiscuous lifestyle and use it for good; and in their eyes, “for good” would be protesting funerals, among other obscene actions. In a press release, the church even said that they would be happy with just one simple tweet from the celebrity, something along the lines of “Stop fornicating ladies, and obey God.” Maybe they’re right, as Swift does have almost 30 million followers on Twitter. However, Swift probably will not take their numerous insults lightly enough to yield to their requests.
Swift has angered the church so much that they plan on protesting her concert in Kansas City, Missouri on August 3rd, Radar Online also reported. A bundle of radicals blurting out nonsense outside of a venue? Yeah, sure, that will stop Swift from performing.
