In shocking and tragic news this morning, Glee actor Cory Monteith is dead.
It’s been confirmed by police at the scene in addition to his reps, the actor died age 31.
Monteith, long time boyfriend of co-star Lea Michele, was found dead at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel Saturday, Vancouver police confirmed.
Monteith went out with friends on Friday night and returned to his hotel room alone. When he missed his checkout time on Saturday morning, staff checked on him and alerted authorities at what they found. The actor was “clearly deceased” by the time police arrived. The cause of death was not immediately apparent and foul play is not suspected.
In a press conference, acting Vancouver Police Chief Doug LePard said that his body was found on Saturday in his room on the 21st floor of the hotel, and an ambulance service called police shortly after noon.
LePard said that Monteith checked into the hotel on July 6 and was due to check out today.
“There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier last night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died,” LePard said. “When he missed his check-out time, staff went to the room at noon and found his body.”
He said police are investigating room access records as well as hotel video. He said that all indications are that there was no foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
“I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, cast mates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith,” LePard said. “As was the case in countless homes, I watched ‘Glee’ regularly with my daughters, and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death.” – via Variety.
