Mariah Carey’s Interview With Barbara Walters: “I Hired More Security” Because Of Nicki Minaj
January 8, 2013 by Hollywoodite
Mariah Carey gave an interview with Barbara Walters shortly after the birth of twins Moroccan Cannon and Monroe Cannon in 2011. And it’s apparent that the women are close friends because all it took was a phone call from Carey to Walters during the first few episodes of American Idol, when alleged threats were being made, and Walters used The View to defend the singer and malign the rapper without even getting Nicki Minaj’s side of the story.
And there will be even more lopsided reporting on tonight’s Nightline, during which Carey will be asked for more information about the altercation that reportedly nearly turned violent because Carey kept provoking Minaj.
Asked about Minaj, Carey explained: “It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not gonna take any chances, so yeah, I did hire more security. For all the drama, I hope it helps the show. I think it’s a classic, classy show and it didn’t need this.”
On whether reports of her $18 million salary are correct, she played coy: “I think we’re in the ballpark, but I can’t even talk about these things.”
She gushed about her kids: “I call [Monroe Cannon] Miss Monroe, and that kind of dictated her personality. She’s a total diva. She’s fascinated by jewelry, chandeliers, all these things. [And Moroccan Cannon is] my pal. He’ll just watch movies with me. We’ve watched Shrek I don’t know how many times. We watch movies all the time together, relax. He’s more chill.”
And she gushed about her husband Nick Cannon: “He’s just as festive as I am. I’m very, very festive, and he kind of almost trumps me there.” Asked about his health scare, she admitted: “It was very serious, but he’s got some great doctors who really got in there and helped him out and at this point he is doing great. He’s better than ever.”
