Boy Meets World Spin-Off… Girl Meets World? Will “Cory” & “Topanga” Return?
Over the past few days, it’s been as good as confirmed that The Disney Channel has the intention to return 90s teen comedy Boy Meets World to the small screen with a spin-off based in the present day where the main characters return with a preteen daughter who will be the star of the show. The spin-off will be called Girl Meets World.
The news has been met with mixed reactions. From indifference from people too young to remember the original… to incredulity from people who are a little older… to excitement from people who like becoming disillusioned when they realise the magic is gone.
Ben Savage who played Cory Matthews and Danielle Fishel who played Topanga Matthews (née Lawrence) who married on the show are in talks to return as on-screen husband and wife of a preteen girl.
Fishel is half-confirming with this message: “Just want you guys to know that @BenSavage and I have talked and we’ve decided…Thanksgiving is going to be delicious this year!” Although the show is in the very early stages of development so even Disney is reluctant to confirm too much.
The world has met Cory Matthews… is it time now to meet his daughter?
The Disney Channel is in the early stages of developing a Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Sources say that the cable network is trying to land original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to revisit their roles of sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who married before their ABC sitcom ended its seven-season run.
The new series would center on their preteen daughter. Since wrapping Boy, Savage’s TV guest-star gigs have included Bones, Chuck and Without a Trace. Fishel’s post-Boy work includes National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze and hosting Style Network’s The Dish. – via TV Line.
