Wife Swap’s Alicia Guastaferro: Mug Shot; Transcript Admitting Prostitution; What Went Wrong?
Fans of the American version of Wife Swap will almost certainly remember one of the show’s most notorious families, the Guastaferros, of whom Alicia Guastaferro was the 16-year-old kid from the ‘rich’ family back in 2008. She disrespected her parents, her parents gave her Christmas presents from a tree year-round, they did her homework for her, and they indulged her narcissism by reinforcing the idea that looks are the only way to get ahead in life.
It would appear Guastaferro, now 20, took those lessons to heart (too much) when she turned to prostitution to help her parents out of their financial hole. Her father was sent to jail for two years and fined $100,000 for money laundering in 2011. Her mother got three-years probation including six-months house arrest and was separately ordered to pay $56,670 restitution to the IRS for tax evasion. At some point since the show, the 2o-year-old has been working at a bar and hooking on the side to earn money to help her parents, so says Guastaferro’s estranged husband, Scott Kleveno.
So, what went wrong? Upon the wrap of her episode in 2008 (Wife Swap USA season four episode one “Boss/Guastaferro”), while she was still in high school, Guastaferro was bullied so badly that she went from the honor roll to special education classes, she became suicidal, she received death threats from viewers, and she sued ABC in 2010 for the emotional distress and for editing her to look like a brat. Effectively, the show did change the course of her education and her life. For the worse. And now she’s turned to prostitution by her own admission, according to the transcript from the police report taken at the incident (whole report PDF from here via here).
Included below left is a snippet from the police documents in which Guastaferro admits she’s being paid $500-700 a time to sleep with ‘prominent’ 54-year-old New York defense attorney James D. Doyle about twice-per-month. Right is her mug shot (via TMZ).
