2013 Oscars Recap: Who Won An Academy Award On Sunday?

Hollywood celebrated its best in film at the 85th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater last night.

The Academy Award for Best Picture went to Argo. The Best Picture Oscar was presented by Jack Nicholson and Michelle Obama, who presented the award via satellite. The film also picked up Oscars for the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing.

Daniel Day-Lewis won his record-setting third Academy Award for Best Actor, for his poignant portrayal of our nation’s 16th president Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s Civil War era biopic, Lincoln. Day-Lewis joked around a bit during his speech and then went on to thank Tony Kushner, Steven Spielberg and the spirit of Abraham Lincoln.

Jennifer Lawrence became the second-youngest woman to win Best Actress for her role in Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, fell on her way to accept her award. She quickly blew it off and said “You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell.” She would go on to thank the other nominees by saying that they were so nice and inspirational.

The Oscar for Best Supporting Actor was given to Christopher Waltz for Django Unchained. Waltz was choked up during his acceptance speech as he thanked director Quentin Tarantino, who also led Waltz to a Best Supporting Actor win for 2009′s Inglorious Basterds. Tarantino later won for Best Original Screenplay for Django Unchained.

Anne Hathaway’s stunning performance in Les Miserables gave the actress her first Oscar. Hathaway beat out a list of some of the strongest names in Hollywood that included Sally Field, Helen Hunt, Amy Adams, and Jacki Weaver.

Life of Pi director Ang Lee won for Best Director. Lee thanked his wife for her support. The film also won for Best Cinematography, Best Score and Best Visual Effects.

Adele performed her song Skyfall from the James Bond film of the same name, she also accepted an Oscar for Skyfall for Best Original Song.

Seth McFarlane hosted and constantly mocked his likely reviews and at times was inappropriate, but he didn’t push the envelope too far and was highly entertaining as the host. All in all, a great night in Hollywood.
