Amanda Bynes To Remain Hospitalized For 30 Days After Being Deemed “Disabled”

August 9, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin

Amanda Bynes was due in court this morning where her parents intended to seek a conservatorship. Amanda was to be transported by bus to the courthouse where she and her lawyer would attempt to free her from the confinements she was placed on following a driveway fire incident last month. Unfortunately for Amanda, she wasn’t able to get there.

TMZ reports that the doctors who have been observing Amanda for the past couple of weeks didn’t feel that Amanda was in a reasonable enough mental state to appear in front of a judge. Instead, they came to court, requesting an emergency hearing in which they recommended that Amanda’s hospitalization be extended for 30 more days.

The judge, agreeing that Amanda was ”gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder,” as per the law, granted the request.

Last week, it was reported that Amanda’s doctors had developed a “cocktail” of medication to control what is believed to be schizophrenia. According to the report, Amanda had taken to the medication quite well, seeming to be a different, much more polite, version of herself. Since at least a few of the medications take up to a week and a half to take full effect, it was said at the time that Amanda would likely be kept in the institution so that doctors would be able to properly treat her and ensure that she will be able to treat herself upon release.

Ahead of the court appearance, Amanda’s parents were hoping that she would remain hospitalized for further treatment so they are likely thrilled with today’s outcome. They will continue to pursue the conservatorship in hopes of gaining control Amanda’s finances until she is capable enough to do so.
