Amber Portwood: “Before prison, I never thought about Leah… I was addicted to drugs”
Former Teen Mom reality star Amber Portwood was released from Indiana’s Rockville Correctional Facility after 17 months.
In a new interview with In Touch Weekly, Amber admits she’s finally clean and able to focus on being the best mother she can be to her daughter, Leah.
“Before prison, I never thought about Leah,” admits Amber.
“I was addicted to drugs and didn’t care about anything else,” Amber says of using Vicodin and Ambien. “Prison saved my life — and gave me a second chance at being a mother.”
“It felt like a nightmare,” Amber reveals of being in prison.
“Feeling humiliated and vulnerable (from the strip search), you literally have nothing and walk around like a zombie,” she recalls.
“There were times I reached a breaking point,” she adds of missing her daughter. “I knew the only person who could get me out of there was me.”
