Amber Portwood Regrets Choosing Prison: “She Threw In The Towel”
Amber Portwood transferred from county jail to Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana where she will complete a five-year prison sentence.
She chose prison, rather than adhere to the terms of her probation. However, Shawn Portwood tells Reality Weekly Magazine his sister regrets this decision. And the Teen Mom assumed prison and county jail were the same thing (in short: jail is for awaiting court hearings when you can’t make bail, booking and holding until you do make bail, and short sentences, whereas prison is designed for protracted stays and you can get one day time served for each day of good behaviour… from my limited understanding). Portwood may be released after 2.5 years of good bevaviour, with the opportunity to reduce the term by another 30-days if she completes the prison’s rehab program.
Although no one explained these intricacies, says her brother: “She threw in the towel. She did it on purpose because she wanted to give up.”
