American Idol Recap: Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey Perform, Winner Revealed

Unless you are living under a rock or do not follow American Idol (don’t worry you are not alone), then you missed the moment when Candice Glover was crowned the winner of the 14th season.
Week after week, Glover stood out among the other contestants and often times was deemed “in it to win it” and “out of their [other contestants’] league,” the South Carolina native was brought to tears as the confetti were released and everyone surrounded her.
Glover told HollywoodLife.com, “I’m still trying to process it. I don’t even know my name. I don’t know what’s happening! It feels amazing though to finally have gotten to this after working so hard for so long.” This season was the third time the Idol champ had audition, finally making it to the finale.
When news broke that Jennifer Lopez would be making her way back to the Idol stage, fans knew they would be in for a treat. Complete with non-stop dancing and Pitbull, Lopez performed Live It Up, but only after AI judge, Mariah Carey performed. The music icon performed a few of her hits including, Vision of Love, Hero, We Belong Together and her newly-released song, Beautiful. Although Carey looked great, something about her vocals were a little off.
The rest of the top ten took to the AI stage to perform again with a few big acts by their side including Jessie J, Emeli Sande, Aretha Franklin, Frankie Valli, Adam Lambert, Psy, The Band Perry, Randy Jackson and Keith Urban. However, the highlight of the night was Glover singing Natalie Cole’s Inseparable, with AI alum and Grammy and Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson. Both ladies brought everyone to their feet with their rendition and the performance truly showed why Glover was America’s choice as the new idol.
Although everyone says second place is the first loser, Kree Harrison feels like this is only the beginning.
“You know what, we’re both standing there and the beauty of Candice and I is that we are totally different artists,” said Harrison. “We are both so driven for each other’s careers and I just felt like it was the beginning. This is not the end of the road for any of us. I’m so proud of her and I am so proud of myself for getting this far and I couldn’t believe I was standing there with her at the finale.”
The love does not stop there, Glover is just as supportive to Harrison. “We are super supportive of each other and I know no matter what I’m going to be buying Kree’s album. I think the world will.”
