Amish Mafia’s Merlin Miller Was Sentenced To 30 Days In Jail For Drug Trafficking In 2009

Amish Mafia’s Merlin Miller, the supposed antagonist of Lebanon Levi, also has a criminal history.

The tipster who told us about Miller’s family business also let us know Miller has been arrested for marijuana trafficking. Which, with his name and location, was verifiable in local records.

The Daily Record, in Wooster, OH reported on Miller’s crimes October 2008 through May 2009.

In October 4, 2008, the newspaper reported: “Merlin A. Miller, 26″ of Wilmot, OH was charged with “two counts of trafficking in marijuana.”

The same day, the same paper reported: “The two patrolman and the drug-sniffing German shepherd were part of a team led by Holmes County Sheriff’s deputies Fred Johnson and Mike Myers that went two for two in Thursday night’s drug roundup, arresting 24-year-old Andrew Malachin, Berlin, on two counts of trafficking in drugs, and Merlin Miller, 26, Wilmot, on two counts of trafficking in marijuana.” Adding: “Miller was arrested after a traffic stop, when his truck was observed driving past his place of employment… In addition to serving the trafficking indictment, a search of the truck turned up a few pills and some marijuana… Miller voluntarily admitted he had marijuana in the cab.”

May 5, 2009, The Daily Record also reported on Miller’s sentencing.

A Wilmot man sentenced April 22 in Holmes County Common Pleas Court on drug trafficking charges said he believed police who arrested him Oct. 2 were “agents of God” who came to deliver him from eight years of marijuana addiction.

Merlin A. Miller, 27, of [address], was sentenced to 30 days in jail on two counts of trafficking in marijuana by Judge Thomas D. White. The charges stem from sales to Medway Drug Enforcement Agency agents Jan. 17 and Feb. 20. Miller was charged with fourth-degree felony on each offense because the sales occurred within 1,000 feet of a school. Miller was one of numerous suspects arrested in a countywide drug sweep Oct. 2.

Officers arrested Miller after he was observed driving past his father’s business, where police were looking for him. Miller said marijuana had come to rule his life and cause divisions with his family.

“(Oct. 2) was my day of reckoning (and) I apologize for putting the officers in danger but I realize now they were agents of God,” Miller said. “My addiction to marijuana has ruled my life a number of years. My prayer is that God will deliver me. I am excited to live life without drugs.”

Since his arrest, Miller said he has been regularly attending counseling and has been drug free for seven months. He asked White to consider sending him to the Stark Regional Community Corrections Center for intensive treatment. White said Miller’s testimony and information obtained in a pre-sentence investigation indicated that Miller was doing all he can to battle his addiction. “You probably have presented as well as anybody could in your situation,” White said. “However, you sold twice in a school zone, you need to serve 30 days in the county jail.”

White also ordered Miller to pay a $1,500 fine and suspended Miller’s driver’s license for three years. – via The Daily Record.

More confirmation that the family construction business is owned by his father, which explains why the BBB entry ascribes business ownership to another man with the surname of “Miller.”

Merlin Miller was “26″ in 2008, and “27″ in May 2009, so he’s probably about 30 or 31-years-0ld now (research indicates he’s 31-years-old, specifically).

Note: In season one episode four, during a conversation with John Freeman Schmucker, Miller admits he’s been to jail saying: “When I went to jail, I was the only Amish guy… I had to fend for myself. I had to learn how to fit in. I had to make connections.” The jail part is true, since he was sentenced to 30 days. However, he was arrested along with several people, so he may not literally have been the only Amish in the county jail if his cohorts were also Amish and did time in the same facility.

Also, this is the same Merlin A. Miller of Wilmot, OH who was on Twitter soliciting for the Miller family business.
