RIP: Amy Winehouse – How Did She Die, Who Found Her, What Happens To Her Estate?

July 25, 2011 by Hollywoodite

There’s really only one update that means anything in the death of Amy Winehouse and that’s her official cause of death – to be released following her autopsy. That’s being released very soon. In the mean time, there are many, many updates on everything from how she spent her last week/ day, how was her health, how were her relationships, how did she die (under what circumstances and of what substance(s)) and what will happen to her estate and unreleased material?

Okay, so starting at the beginning, in her last 48 hours of life, Winehouse is reported to have done two main things: visit a doctor to check her generally-frail health, and spend time with her mother.

She got the all-clear from the doctor, “The doctor was happy with her condition. When he left on Friday night he had no concerns… Amy’s health has been very fragile and she has been having a series of check-ups.” She was dead 24 hours later. But it wasn’t of a pre-existing condition. Following that, Winehouse visited with her mother. They had lunch together and her final words to her mother were “I love you, Mum.”

There were reports that she went on a drug-binge after another break-up with on-off boyfriend Reg Traviss. However, there’s no basis to the reports that she took “bought ecstasy, cocaine and ketamine.” A preliminary police investigation has shown “no drug paraphernalia” was found at her home. It would appear that, despite reported efforts to stop drinking in her final two weeks – instructing her favourite bar to stop serving her alcohol “I’m not drinking. Don’t give me anything to drink if I ask for it. I mustn’t have it” – she drank herself to death (making it all the tackier that bottles of vodka, beer, open bottles of wine and glasses of wine have been left by fans at the shrine outside her home). The drinking binge is a theory supported by police sources at this time.

Her spokesperson confirmed no foul play. Winehouse died in bed after falling to sleep some hours earlier. She was found in her home by security charged with watching over her, “She was in her bedroom after saying she wanted to sleep, and when he went to wake her he found she wasn’t breathing. [The bodyguard] called the emergency services straight away. He was very shocked. At this stage no one knows how she died. She died alone in bed.” She may have been dead for up to six hours, before being found, suspected as rigor mortis had set in.

A statement from her family read, “Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister, niece. She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time.”

Ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil gave a statement from jail that “I’m beyond inconsolable … my tears won’t dry. I will never ever again feel the love I felt for her. Everybody who knew me and knew Amy knew the depth of our love. I can’t believe she’s dead.” Traviss has yet offered no statement.

Lastly, it’s reported that Winehouse had been recording and there’s unreleased material that may have been intended for a third album. Material from her 2003 album Frank and 2006′s Back To Black have been topping international download sales charts. She died worth a reported £36 million. She’d been married before and so there’s a question of when her will was written; the money may end up with her ex-husband if she never revised her will. On that note, Fielder-Civil’s on suicide-watch in prison as it’s a concern that he may harm or kill himself.
