Angelina Jolie Talks About Maleficent Role
August 11, 2013 by Natalie Nicole
Angelina Jolie has always been intrigued by darkness, so it’s no surprise that she is thrilled with her lead role in Maleficent. The film, which will be in theaters in the summer of 2014, depicts the classic story of Sleeping Beauty with an interesting twist: the tale is told through the eyes of the villain. Although it may seem that this movie is meant for kids, Angelina admits that she has unintentionally terrified children in her costume when they visited the set!
This Saturday, at D23 Expo in Anaheim California, Angelina appeared on stage dressed in all black to introduce a couple of scenes from the upcoming film. After the audience’s applause, she remarked that she was not used to getting that reaction from children. PEOPLE reported Angelina saying: ”These little kids would visit the set, and I would think, ‘Oh, I am a Disney character,’ so I would go over to them, and say, ‘Hi there,’… They would just scream.”
In fact, Angelina claimed that her scariness was what landed daughter Vivienne, age 4, the role of young Aurora. The character Maleficent was so realistic that any other child would scream at her appearance (sounds like a mixture of great acting and a great costume… kudos to the hair and makeup team). However, ”Vivienne was the only 4-year-old who didn’t scream when she saw me.”
Viewers may be shocked to find themselves sympathizing with the villain in this film, despite her harsh looks. First of all, we are all fans of the talented Angelina Jolie. Secondly, the story will actually reveal past events in the character’s life that lead her to be evil and curse Aurora. This is a refreshing change from lighthearted Disney movies!
