Anne Hathaway Introduces More Than Just Her Film At The Les Mis Premiere

Anne Hathaway pulled a Paris Hilton yesterday and got caught going commando while getting out of her car at the Les Mis premiere.

Hathaway says, “It was devastating. They saw everything. I might as well have lifted up my skirt for them.”

She is a Hollywood actress starring in a critically-acclaimed film and she doesn’t think maybe paparazzi could be waiting to take her picture. Hathaway can’t be that oblivious and knew she wasn’t wearing underwear. When you put two and two together, keep your knees closed and gracefully get out of the car.

She continues to berate the paparazzi, a.k.a. the people who keep her relevant, and says: ”It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to Les Mis, that’s what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there’s no social safety net. So let’s get back to Les Mis.”

In response to her first point, the paparazzi are making a living whether it’s dignified or not and use her fame to their advantage. Also, Hathaway voluntarily gave up her privacy after she made Princess Diaries and her paycheck is indirectly reliant on the paparazzi updating her fans on her life.

In addition, with her second point, she’s comparing herself to a character who lived in a time where sexuality was a means of survival.  Although Hathaway’s privacy was violated, she has the autonomy to make decisions to protect her sexuality. She can choose to wear underwear or choose where she’ll appear in order to avoid being photographed. At the premiere of her film, what else did she expect?
