Anne Hathaway Knows You Hate The Budget Catwoman Costume

August 9, 2011 by Hollywoodite

The first photos of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman character were released this week. The official promotional photo from the studio came the day after Hathaway was seen walking around set in her own clothes and the same day her stunt woman was on set wearing her costume. Because the entire movie’s being filmed on the streets and there’s no part of this that’s not going to be spoiled and given away before the fact. Well, the costume was met with some… resistance. People didn’t hate it as much as they did the costume for the television pilot for Wonder Woman. People HATED that, it was so budget, Halloween, “Hey! My mom made this!” It was a shiny, ill-fitting, crummy mess. The Catwoman costume was simply uninspired. It was more her costume and not necessarily the full catsuit. At least, people were hoping not.

In any case, Hathaway knows you hate what’s effectively a very thin, zipped, black leather jacket and pants. Ooh, and glasses. Don’t forget the glasses.

“I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo],” she told MTV. “And I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh.’”

In its original critique, MTV called the image of Hathaway “unflattering” and “underwhelming.” In an Us Weekly poll, 52 percent of readers voted Michelle Pfeiffer as the sexiest Catwoman; Halle Berry came in second place with 37 percent of the votes, while Hathaway came in last place with a mere 11 percent.

Despite first impressions, Hathaway promised there’s more to her costume than meets the eye. “What I am happy to say is, if you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,” the 28-year-old said. “And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste.”– via Us Weekly.

No, Hathaway. People underwhelmed by the photo have better taste. And you’re not fooling anyone. She’s doing her job by defending the uninspired suit, sure. But it remains that, uninspired. It’s a leather jacket and pants. Ugh.
