Avril Lavigne & Brody Jenner: Who Dumped Whom, What Went Wrong?

On Monday, Life & Style ran what read as the usual tabloid supposition about a relationship that’s mostly off the radar because Avril Lavigne’s only tangentially-relevant at best and Brody Jenner’s covered in Kardashians stink.
The tabloid claimed the couple split because of conflicting views on marriage, following only two years and Lavigne’s divorce from Deryck Whibley, and conflicting career aspirations. L&S reported that she wanted to settle down, again, and her tour schedule caused issues: ‘They decided to end their relationship,’ said a source. ‘It wasn’t working out, and they wanted to go their separate ways. She wanted to settle down, but he wasn’t exactly ready. They had been having problems starting in the summer with her tour because she was on the road all the time. It put a strain on their relationship.’
The story’s since been picked up by Us Weekly, who claim the exclusive although it appears to be an L&S story (in which case Us is on a roll, taking credit for other people’s stories). People.com has picked this up too. And they’re all reporting pretty much the same: it was amicable, but he dumped her.
“It was mutual, but Brody really broke up with her,” a [friend said]. Jenner “started” the conversation as they were discussing singer Lavigne’s upcoming tour dates in Asia. “He told her he was tired of always being her plus-one, and always going on tour with her.”
Former Hills star Jenner, 26, said “he needs a career of his own again, and he didn’t want to go on the tour. Avril didn’t like that.”
Although once-divorced Lavigne, 25, loved her man’s constant companionship, “she also lost respect for him because he hasn’t done anything,” the source explains. “Brody said, ‘I need to stay in L.A. and get back into TV, either scripted or reality. But I feel like a loser.’ They still love each other and could get back together, but for now, he needed a break.” – via Us Weekly.
The couple have indeed split, a source tells People. But the source says the lovebirds, who were inseparable for much of their romance, could very well get back together.
Jenner hasn’t commented on the breakup rumors directly, but seemed to address it with a cryptic post on Twitter saying, “Everybody…RELAX.”
Meanwhile, Lavigne is focusing on her work and is headed out of town. The singer wrote on Twitter Tuesday, “Getting excited for my shows in Asia next month. Japan, China, Philippines, Malaysia – C U SOON!” – via People.
