Why Did Bethenny Frankel Confirm Separation From Jason Hoppy During The Holidays?

Real Housewives of New York City alum Bethenny Frankel released a statement this weekend confirming her separation from husband Jason Hoppy.

“It brings me great sadness to say that Jason and I are separating,” Frankel said in a statement Sunday. “This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family. We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter who is and will always remain our first priority. This is an immensely painful and heartbreaking time for us.”

A source claims that it’s really a trial separation at the behest of Frankel’s therapist with the goal of ultimately reconciling.

“Bethenny was adamantly against formally separating from Jason because she viewed it as giving up on the marriage, and she just isn’t ready to do that. It was her therapist that recommended the trial separation to give the couple some breathing room, and experience life without each other on a daily basis,” a source [says].

“Bethenny and Jason have been having the same arguments for a very long time, she thinks he is too critical of her, and he thinks his wife is can be a control freak. The one thing they both agree on is that their 2-year-old daughter Bryn will not be adversely affected by this break. Bethenny and Bryn will remain in the apartment and Jason can spend as much time as he wants with her. Jason is a devoted dad, and Bethenny recognizes that,” the insider added. – via RadarOnline.

Another source explains confirming the separation during the holidays: ”Once Bethenny had made her mind up that they were going to officially split she felt she had to make the announcement immediately. Jason wanted to wait till after the holidays were over but Bethenny insisted that she could not carry on the charade of pretending to be a happy couple any longer, especially not in front of their closest friends and family. Basically, in the end Bethenny decided, no more secrets and lies, let’s get it out in the open, for better or for worse.”

The couple has been in a downward spiral for much of their two year marriage. It was obvious from their unfortunately-named spin-off, Bethenny Ever After (and, before that, Bethenny Getting Married?). During an interview with Life & Style, Frankel confirmed that they were no longer intimate. Joking that Hoppy’s “penis has cobwebs on it” because of a lack of sex. According to subsequent reports, Hoppy was extremely unhappy about his wife talking to the media about their sex life.

In 2011, Frankel’s estranged mother, Bernadette Birk, portended the split in Star Magazine: “Right now, he is a good father, but soon she won’t need him and she will dump him. Her husband seems like a really nice guy, but it won’t last. He is really too weak for her.”

The 42-year-old chef, author, and creator of Skinny Girl drinks, and 41-year-old Hoppy, a pharmaceutical sales rep and real estate broker, have a prenup that includes protection for Frankel’s business income.
