Beyonce’s Postpartum “Exclusive” Interview With Star Is Fake, Says Rep

Yesterday afternoon, a bunch of sites started randomly quoting what was fairly-obviously, even to the casual observer, a fabricated interview. The quotes were regurgitated from the UK’s edition of Star and purported to be a postpartum exclusive in which Beyonce talked about her experiences being a mother to Blue Ivy Carter (the Notorious B.I.C.).
The interview included blithe generalities and vague superlatives, which somehow didn’t tip people off the interview was fake. Moreover, honestly, just reading the thing, there was no way it was real because no British tabloid would get the exclusive anyway.
Beyonce’s rep confirms the story’s fabrication: “Completely made up,” says the rep, “[It’s] absolutely not [legitimate].”
However, asked by Access Hollywood on Tuesday, Star UK stuck by the veracity of the piece claiming it was a pre-baby interview with additional information collected weeks later, post partum, with Beyonce’s knowledge: “It is not made up or fictitious at all,” said an editor at the magazine. “We bought the interview from a reporter in the U.S. who conducted the interview with Beyonce before the birth. The reporter then obtained the ‘top-up’ info after the birth, which we believe to have been signed off by a girl on [Beyonce’s] LSM team.”
Star’s online article doesn’t clarify two interviews, pre and post, simply the misleading: “Beyonce WORLD EXCLUSIVE first interview.” The lede is also misleading: “Talking exclusively to Star in her first interview since giving birth, Beyonce Knowles told us she had an instant connection with her daughter Blue Ivy.”
