Beyonce Talks Rumours: Adoption, Surrogacy, Pillow Conspiracies

Beyonce sort of addressed last year’s rumours that 1) Blue Ivy Carter was adopted 2) Or, the family used a surrogate/ gestational carrier 3) Or, Beyonce faked the whole pregnancy using a false bump 4) Or, much crazier rumours involving Jay-Z’s supposed mistress and “stealing” or “buying” another woman’s baby. Asked whether she was really expecting, and asked to explain why her bump deflated on live television, the singer dismissed the speculation as “stupid, ridiculous and false,” and nothing much has been said about this since. However, the rumours were not abated by the baby’s birth.

Taking this week’s cover of People, now is as good a time as any for Beyonce to (attempt to) quiet rumours once and for all.

The World’s Most Beautiful Woman title was afforded Beyonce as some convoluted reward for giving birth. So, a large portion of her interview is about being a mother: maternity weight, postpartum weight loss, breastfeeding, pillow conspiracies.

Asked about rumours B.I.C. may not even be a Carter, the singer replied: “That was crazy. It wasn’t hurtful, it was just crazy. [I thought] ‘Where did they come up with this?’”

Her own mother, Tina Knowles, says of surrogacy rumours: “I thought it was very unfair and very cruel that someone would think that someone would be that diabolical to keep up a charade like that for nine months. As a mother it was painful for me to hear the crazy rumors. And I even had people ask me, which was so ridiculous.’ Asked about one of the pillows deflating, the 58-year-old continued: ‘It was a fabric that folded; does fabric not fold? Oh my gosh, so stupid. [But] there was so much love and well wishes from all over the world, it made it easier to deal with the stupid rumors.”
