Breaking Amish Season Two With New Cast; Original Cast Get A Spin-Off, A Brave New World

April 4, 2013 by Hollywoodite

Over the course of Breaking Amish season one it was established that pretty much none of the original cast was whom they purported to be nor did they live their lives as portrayed on the show. Originally touted as exposing Amish and Mennonite’s first experiences of “English” culture, this synopsis was quickly revised when it was established the show was a complete fraud and some of the cast members had been living outside of their communities, marrying outside of their communities, and even raising children outside of their communities for, in some cases, YEARS before being approached by producers.

Over the course of season one, Katie “Kate” Stolzfus, Jeremiah Raber, Sabrina High (married name of Burkholder), Abe Schmucker and Rebecca Byler were discovered to have told several lies on the show. Not white lies, major obfuscations told during production. For example, Byler had a child by another man while married to someone else and neglected to mention any of this until caught out by the media; Raber pretended to learn to drive on the show, despite knowing how and owning a car, and he pretended to get his first tattoo despite getting inked years earlier. High is an actress, who worked for Amish Mafia’s Alan Beiler and acted in a prior Amish television show for NatGeo. And they had storied criminal histories that were only touched on during the show.

Those cast members will return but for their own spin-off, Breaking Amish: A Brave New World, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No doubt, this will be another nebulous look at contrived, fictional events that never actually happened and once again the media will uncover the truth. A Brave New world season one will be about the original cast “as they make a fresh start in a large ex-Amish community in Sarasota, Fla., where they’re surprised to discover even more culture shock, unexpected enemies and surprises from family members with their own agendas… The series will feature love triangles, dramatic moments between the roommates, surprise visits, financial woes and career decisions as the group attempt to acclimate to their new “English” lives in yet another unfamiliar city.”

Breaking Amish proper will return for season two with “three new women and four men,” whose identities are yet to be confirmed. With production “set to begin in the spring for a late-summer premiere.”

“The Breaking Amish franchise is a remarkable look at individuals facing a critical crossroads in their lives: whether to pursue the dreams they’ve always had or stay in the only life they’ve ever known,” TLC GM Amy Winter said. “Both iterations of the series follow a group of young men and women on their own journeys of self-discovery, complex relationships and understanding the world around them.”
