Breaking Amish: What Is The Truth About Abe Schmucker, Rebecca Byler & Her Ex-Husband?

Early into season one of Breaking Amish, TLC admitted in a statement, “There is a lot of information floating around about the group featured on Breaking Amish. Much of it is not true, but some of it is… and is addressed in upcoming episodes.”
Nearly one month later, that has amounted to addressing the D.U.I. arrest of Kate Stoltzfus only because it happened immediately prior to filming (she was arrested April 2012 and filming started May 2012). While not really addressing Abe Schmucker’s 2008 arrest for alcohol intoxication in public. The show also revealed, eventually, that Jeremiah Raber had been married before. While not really admitting that he got divorced because he beat and stalked his ex-wife who eventually filed for a restraining order and sole custody of their three kids together (the same ex-wife who said the show’s “fake” and was allegedly bribed $10,000 by TLC to keep quite after she talked to CBS 21 and Star Magazine). And, this weekend, the show admitted that Rebecca Byler had been married before. While not fully admitting her existing relationship with Abe Schmucker. Whom she has been dating since 2010, with whom she reportedly has a child, and with whom she ran away while newly-married to another man.
It is apparent that, no matter what’s said on the show, Schmucker already knew Byler’s “secret.” He already knew she was married.
Byler and Rufus L. Hostetler, Jr. filed for their marriage certificate March 22, 2010 after which they got married. They were married for a few weeks when Byler left Hostetler to be with Schmucker with whom she’s been in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship ever since and they’re reportedly parents to a toddler daughter.
Moreover, Byler was reportedly pregnant by Schmucker in mid-2010, WEEKS into her marriage to Hostetler, according to the person with whom Byler and Schmucker lived though her pregnancy in 2010. And, in October 2010, Schmucker tried to befriend his girlfriend’s then-husband on Facebook, about which Hostetler wrote: “I am tryn 2 figure out why in th world abe schmucker wud want to b a friend on face book afterall he left wht my wife.”
