What Are Britney Spears & Demi Lovato Like To Work With On X Factor?

Simon Cowell is trying to persuade you of X Factor’s relevance when its competing against The Voice, American Idol, and, tangentially, America’s Got Talent.

Cowell tells People Magazine about working with the women on the set. The two fragile former Disney stars: one of whom has an admitted eating disorder, substance abuse problems, body issues, self harm issues, among other things; the other has mental health issues and so remains under conservatorship by her father, until her marriage, at which time she will become her husband’s ward.

The 52-year-old tells the magazine Demi Lovato is a precocious “total brat” who’s “completely fearless [and] irreverent,” while Britney Spears, with whom Cowell is “fascinated,” is “not on the show to be Britney Spears on a TV show.”

Cowell continues: “[Britney] is actually there to prove to the world there’s more to her, and she’s got the ability to do this job really well. She’s taken the role really seriously. It’s quite interesting because when someone has done what she’s done as she has with her career, and being such a public person, you kind of think she is going to be very confident, but in real life she’s shy. There’s kind of a mystique about her which I think is what kind of attracted me to her in the place.”
