How Did Britney Spears’ Manager React To Britney 2.0 Glee Episode?
September 25, 2012 by Hollywoodite
Glee already did an episode dedicated to Britney Spears in which cheerleader Brittany S. Pierce (played by Heather Morris who’s put her own photo scandal behind her) revealed the character’s middle name, “Susan,” and surname, and inferiority complex about Spears.
Spears, 30, appeared in cameo. During which time the cast described the experience as “interesting” (not in a good way) for what only ended up being an over-hyped few lines and minutes of screen time. The show slavishly kowtowed to Spears in the episode that involved copying and pasting some of her best and worst songs. They didn’t make fun of her then, they only addressed overcoming personal “challenges,” and that was that.
It’s a year later and the show has waited to make fun of the singer during “Britney 2.0″ where they cover, among others, Oops I Did It Again, Hold It Against Me, and Gimme More as disastrously performed at the MTV VMAs.
Since producers were cowardly enough to have Spears on the show, but wait for a subsequent episode to mock the singer, obviously her people have reacted to the situation. And they’re not happy.
Britney Spears’ handlers are livid after watching the stars of Glee ridicule the pop star’s public meltdown just minutes after her latest appearance on The X Factor on Thursday night.
The latest Glee episode was billed as a second tribute to the [singer] but instead of just reworking the singer’s hits on the show, creator Ryan Murphy and his writers recreated Spears’ 2008 breakdown, even filming a scene in which Heather Morris’ character, Brittany S. Pierce, attacks a high school journalist with an umbrella, and another where she lip syncs and appears distant and out-of-step during a performance.
The real Britney attacked paparazzi with an umbrella as they hounded her following a head-shaving incident, something else that was referenced on Glee, and Spears was savaged for an ill-conceived 2007 performance of Gimme More at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she appeared to be more than a little out of sorts.
…The latest Glee episode aired directly after Spears’ The X Factor show on the same channel.
Calling the drama a “low blow” during his Access Hollywood Live show on Friday morning, TV personality Billy Bush revealed he had been in touch with Spears’ longtime manager Larry Rudolph, who revealed he had not seen or heard about the episode before it aired on the Fox channel.
Bush said, “I can tell you that Britney’s manager, Larry, is livid. He’s not happy.” – via SFGate.
Included are some performances and clips from the Britney 2.0 episode.
