Britney Spears & Jason Trawick Split Up: What Went Wrong; When Did They Break Up?

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick got engaged in late 2011 with the vague intention of getting married once several court cases were settled like the Sam Lutfi lawsuit that was eventually thrown out of court. With no further legal action against Spears, the intention was that co-conservator Trawick would become the carer of Spears in the manner her father is currently. It was part business arrangement, from its inception, since he was her agent, and part emotional support.
There were rumours of trouble in the relationship back in the fall though. In December 2012, a year into their engagement, the rumours reached crescendo as sources claimed that Trawick wanted out but his contractual obligations to Spears made it difficult to just leave. As such, it was reported that Trawick intended to leave at the close of the X Factor so as not to disrupt production.
The veracity of some of those sources have been confirmed today, since Spears confirmed Thursday she would not return to X Factor for another year; jumping before she was pushed. And this evening, buried on a Friday, TMZ.com confirms they’ve split.
TMZ claims to have “multiple” sources who say the couple’s split was amicable but they “grew apart.”
Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have broken up.
The couple got engaged back in 2011. Trawick started out as Britney’s agent, the duo started dating and he eventually became her co-conservator along with her dad, Jamie Spears.
Multiple sources connected to the couple [say] Jason didn’t want to make the announcement until he was taken off the conservatorship. Interestingly, lawyers for the conservatorship are in court right now, along with Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears, so it’s possible Jason will be removed today.
Sources say it was a “friendly breakup” and Britney and Jason will remain friends. As for why they split, we’re told they just “grew apart.”
The timing’s pretty interesting considering Brit recently changed agencies, heading to CAA … an indication Trawick was no longer involved in managing her career. – via TMZ.
As for why they grew apart, further sources tell TMZ.com, she really badly wanted more kids and he didn’t because he’s a decade older and is “in another place.”
He was also concerned about “losing his individuality” because of the relationship and so he wanted to do things to regain his business like take on more clients and make his own money (Spears did not approve). They really were just not on the same page. She recently gave the ring back.
The couple has released statements to confirm. Her rep tells People.com: “Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement… As two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends.” Spears adds: “Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I’ll always adore him and we will remain great friends.” And here’s Trawick’s statement: “As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever.”
