Buckwild Has Been CANCELLED Shortly After Shain Gandee Death & Cast Member Arrests
April 10, 2013 by Hollywoodite
Wildly popular reality show Buckwild that returned better ratings than Jersey Shore for MTV in the same time slot has been cancelled only 10 days after the death of cast member Shain Gandee.
As previously reported, the 21-year-old reality star was found dead along with his uncle and a family friend after going “mudding” late Sunday March 31 when Gandee’s vehicle became stuck in the mud along with the tail pipe that lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. A popular theory shared by Gandee’s cousin is that the men became stuck and, although they were able to leave the vehicle, it was late so they decided to sleep and go for help later.
Additional to the deaths while “mudding,” a stunt also performed on the show along with several other dangerous stunts, several of the cast members are in serious legal trouble. Gandee’s friend Michael Douglas Burford was arrested on suspicion of DUI, cast member Salwa Amin was arrested for drug possession with intent to deliver then re-arrested for a failed drug test.
TMZ.com reports, an official statement is expected later today but the show is over.
Buckwild had completed a successful first season and was confirmed for a second season that had already begun filming in the cast’s native West Virginia. However, following political opposition, opposition from locals and local businesses, arrests, and now a death, the show was halted mid-production and has now been cancelled.
TMZ reports, “We’re told MTV didn’t give the cast and crew any specific reason for the cancellation. An official announcement is expected Wednesday morning.”
