Buckwild: Shae Bradley & Shain Gandee Give Interviews To The AP, Jimmy Fallon, And Today

The Buckwild season premiere is less than 12 hours away in which time it will become immediately apparent whether or not the outrage and the publicity about the outrage have been worth the hype.

We’ve already met the cast who’ve revealed a LOT about themselves. Sometimes without meaning to. They’ve given away enough to warrant extended bios in addition to the loglines released by MTV.com who claim the show is an “authentic comedic series following an outrageous group of childhood friends from the rural foothills of West Virginia who love to dodge grown-up responsibilities and always live life with the carefree motto: Whatever happens, happens.”

MTV’s claims of “authenticity” have been called into question over and over again though, because it’s a television show that’s ostensibly coached and edited to produce a certain result.

One of the earliest reports about the show claimed it had been shot out-of-sequence and fight scenes had been staged. A subsequent report from a local business owner claimed that producers lied about shooting a “documentary” to get locals on side and to get permission to film and then openly staged fights that locals were told were “only acting.” Well, yes. All reality shows have been faked to some  extent and you can read a previous article on how it’s done here.

The main cast include the following: Cara Parrish, a 23-year-old model; Shain Gandee, a 21-year-old who sort of lied in the trailer about not using computers and social media when he used MySpace in high school (to his credit, he isn’t using social media anymore); Anna Davis, who denies that the show shames West Virginia; Ashley Whitt; Shae Bradley, 21, who says don’t be too quick to judge; Katie Saria, 22, who defended the show against local leaders; Salwa Amin, 24, who has been arrested (and the charges dismissed) for disorderly conduct; Tyler Boulet, 20, who has been arrested twice including once for underage drinking (the show’s producers were accused of giving minor cast drink); and Joey Mulchey.

Of those cast members, Shain Gandee and Shae Bradley have paired off for a press tour. They’ve given interviews with the Associated Press, Late Night with Jimmy Fallo, and Today Show, which are included below.

And here’s the season one teaser trailer in case you missed it.
