Catfish: Kari Ann Peniche Facebook Video Confirming Identity; Who Is Kari Ann Peniche?

As mentioned earlier, the latest episode of MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show was more convoluted and frustrating than usual after the Catfish guys failed to properly research a prospect and were fooled by a sociopath friend of the lovelorn guy featured on the show.
Joe Sumeriski wrote in to Catfish believing himself to be in an online relationship with “Kari Ann Peniche” whom he was willing to move across country for. “Kari Ann” turned out to be a real person… although the real woman was being impersonated by one of Joe’s friends, Rose, who had feelings for him. After this came to light, Rose deactivated the impostor profile for 24 hours before reactivating it and increasing her friend count to 1,000 followers. That’s 1,000 people who think they’re “friends” with her and 7,000 people are “friends” on the real page.
The real Kari Ann Peniche is a 29-year-old model and mother to a toddler son. She married Justin Williams in 2011 although he filed for divorce four months later while she was still pregnant because he suspected the kid wasn’t his. Moreover, Peniche has a well-documented substance abuse problem, for which she sought help on the third season of Celebrity Rehab, and Williams claimed in 2012 that the baby “tested positive for meth and it’s her fault.” She was drug tested a few months later, although an alleged eyewitness claims Peniche somehow inserted clean urine about her person in order to pass (something Peniche denies).
Peniche is also a former Miss United States Teen and she’s appeared in Playboy Magazine.
Confirming the veracity of her official Facebook page, Peniche filmed a short video January 9 in which she said: “I just wanted to post this video after seeing the MTV Catfish episode and let you know that you’re at the right page and and that is Facebook.com/kariannpeniche”
Rather confusingly, Peniche points viewers to a defunct page Facebook.com/kariannpeniche with 68 likes that directs people to Facebook.com/kariannpenichepage with the message: “Please use my FAN PAGE as this one was my personal page!”
UPDATE: 2/19/13: The personal page is no longer available and since the real Kari Ann was kind enough to link this post, it’s an idea to update it. Since the original report, she’s made a subsequent video confirming THIS as her official fan page.
