This morning, news broke that the French edition of Closer Magazine published four pages of topless photos of Kate Middleton. Going so far as the editor bragging about the exclusive on Twitter, releasing a preview of the pixelated/ censored cover on their website, and the boastful cover headline: “See incredible pictures of the future Queen of England as you’ve never seen her… and as you will never see her again! Oh my God! The photos that will go around the world.”

The photos are everywhere online now, including the uncensored topless photos of Middleton being reproduced on website Egotastic.com that appeared to crash from the traffic soon after publishing the photos (at the same time they were released by Closer).

The palace released a series of statements in reaction to the publishing of private moments on a private estate, calling it a “grotesque and unjustifiable” invasion of privacy. Right after which, the royals made it clear they were looking into their legal options with the intention to sue. And now they have sued the magazine, reports TMZ.com and the Associated press who note that St James’s Palace issued the statement Friday that “legal proceedings for breach of privacy have been commenced today in France.”

So far, it’s unclear what relief they are seeking.
