Courtney Stodden & Doug Hutchison Marriage Problems On VH1′s Couples Therapy

August 3, 2012 by Hollywoodite

In December last year, around the time Courtney Stodden, 17, was calling paparazzi to wait outside MTV studios while she conducted her business meetings with them, it was reported that she had been offered her first spot on a reality show.

RadarOnline.com reported at the time, VH1 offered Stodden and husband Doug Hutchison, 51, $150,000 and $200,000 to appear on eight-episode Relationship Rehab (spin-off produced by the same people of Celebrity Rehab) that would have been filmed over three weeks. However, the couple reportedly turned the show down because they felt it was an ill-fit.

A source at the time said: “Though Doug and Courtney considered the offer, in the end they felt that this wasn’t a perfect fit for the kind of show they wanted to do. There has been a lot of speculation about their marriage and a lot of people are just waiting for the inevitable ‘train wreck’ to happen, but Doug and Courtney have an incredibly strong relationship and seem very happy together. So doing a show about going into ‘rehab’ just doesn’t make sense for them. By turning down Relationship Rehab Doug and Courtney walked away from a nice chuck of change.” Stodden’s momager added: “Doug and Courtney are faced with an array of career opportunities and offers each and every day. I’m impressed by their ability to stay true to their convictions and stand behind any decision to respectfully pass on projects that they may feel are not completely right for them.”

Similarly, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt turned down Relationship Rehab for the same reason.

Skip forward nearly eight months later, with no other interesting reality offers for Stodden, and she’s agreed to appear on VH1′s Couples Therapy. So, they’ve spontaneously developed issues and this format of show is suddenly a good fit. Stodden tweeted earlier this week: “Will be m.i.a for about 3 weeks – packing up & heading out to shoot a reality show! Love you all…” and now TMZ.com confirms the show she’s recording is Couples Therapy, the same show on which “perfect couple” former Real Housewives of New York City’s Alex McCord & Simon van Kempen will also appear.

17-year-old Courtney Stodden believes there are MAJOR PROBLEMS with her marriage to 52-year-old Lost actor Doug Hutchison and now she hopes they can be solved on a VH1 reality show.

Stodden, who married Hutchison when she was 16, has signed on to the upcoming season of VH1′s Couples Therapy.

The couple has acknowledged there are “obvious problems in their relationship because of their age difference and the notoriety they’ve gotten because of their relationship.”

Courtney and Doug, along with 4 other couples, will receive “intense counseling” throughout the course of the show, which began taping a few days ago. – via TMZ.
