Demi Lovato Says On Stay Strong: I Still Cut Myself & Throw Up
March 8, 2012 by Hollywoodite
Demi Lovato is still talking about what ails her in her new documentary, Stay Strong.
Shortly after her treatment for eating disorder, cutting, and behavioral issues, Lovato did a series of interviews that served to do little but promote her music. It felt less like soul-searching and more like what it was: a contrived angle for her marketing. And it’s a shame, because she actually has a relatable story that makes her compelling anyway and she need not over-sell and try so hard.
But she’s doing it again in an interview that forms part of Stay Strong, laced with asinine quotes about not being perfect which is everyone’s mindless go-to whenever they admit something for which they may be criticised (“I made a mistake” has lost its meaning).
Indirectly admitting that she still cuts herself and still suffers from bulimia and purges, she says: “I cannot tell you that I have not thrown up since treatment. I cannot tell you that I have not cut myself since treatment. I’m not perfect. An addiction is an obsession, something that takes over your mind and your every thought. You think that you can’t live without it. For me, it was not eating and purging and self-harming.”
