Did Raven-Symoné Come Out Of The Closet?
August 6, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin
Raven-Symoné caused a stir on Twitter last week when she reacted to news of the government’s decision to legalize gay marriage by telling fans that she could “finally get married.” The tweet seemed to confirm that not only is Symoné gay, she’s also ready to wed but, that isn’t 100% accurate. In a new statement to press, Symoné is setting the record straight — for the most part.
In a statement to E! News, Symoné explains, “I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”
Her rep adds, “Raven is not getting married. She was just supporting the fact that she heard on NPR that more states legalized gay marriage today.”
While Symoné isn’t coming right out and saying, “I’m gay,” it’s safe to say that she is either gay or she’s taken the “Brangelina Stand” and vowed not to wed until the option was open to all. But judging by previous reports, the gay option seems likely.
In 2012, Symoné was rumored to be in a long-term relationship with openly gay America’s Next Top Model contestant AzMarie Livingston. The two reportedly lived together in New York City early that year before splitting in September.
Once Symoné got word of the story, she took to Twitter and released a statement to fans.
“That is my right as a HUMAN Being whether straight or gay,” Symoné said at the time. “To tell or not to tell. As long as I’m not harming anyone. I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life.”
