Dustin Hoffman “Surgically Cured” Of Cancer
August 7, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin
Dustin Hoffman has been successfully treated for cancer, his rep confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. The award-winning actor had been keeping his battle to himself but now that he’s headed into recovery, Hoffman letting his secret be known.
“It was detected early and he has been surgically cured,” Hoffman’s rep, Jodi Gottlieb, said of the cancer. “Dustin is feeling great and is in good health.”
While Gottlieb failed to give any further details regarding Hoffman’s treatment or type of cancer, she did disclose that Hoffman, 75, will continue to undergo “doctor-recommended preventative treatments” to reduce the chances of the cancer returning.
Despite Hoffman’s recent health scare, he has continued to work and had plenty of success doing so. Last year, Hoffman made his directorial debut in the British comedy-drama Quartet. The film premiered at several film festivals worldwide and was released in the U.S. earlier this year to generally positive reviews.
In a January 2013 interview with AZ Central, Hoffman opened up about his transition from actor to director. ”What I find to be surprising, which I didn’t realize, is the constancy of mishaps that take place on a daily basis, that actors are kind of protected from even knowing about,” Hoffman explained. “When you come to work each day as an actor, you have your scene or scenes that you’re going to do. That’s all that’s in your head. The director greets you many times with half a smile because he or she found out they just lost the location or they lost an actor they thought they had or they were getting some props or the crane they thought they were supposed to have for a shot didn’t come.”
Hoffman may have had a few surprises in both his personal life and his career, but in the end, he seems to be coming out on top across the board.
