Ed Sheeran Joins The Fifth Season Of The Voice As Christina Aguilera’s Team Advisor
August 20, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin
Ed Sheeran has just been named as Christina Aguilera’s Team Advisor on the upcoming fifth season of The Voice. Every year, the show’s four celebrity judges team up with different artists to help their contestants reach victory during the series’ Battle Rounds and this year, one of those artists will be Sheeran.
The Huffington Post first broke the exciting news yesterday afternoon, announcing, “The advisor woking with returning coach Christina Aguilera’s team will be Ed Sheeran, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who co-wrote Taylor Swift’s “Everything Has Changed,” duetted with Elton John and has penned tracks for One Direction.”
Sheeran, who has been making music since 2005, began playing gigs in London when he was just 18-years-old. From there, he released a couple of albums before heading to Los Angeles in 2010 where he was discovered by Jamie Foxx. After hearing him sing, Foxx offered up his studio to Sheeran and allowed him free run of his home for the rest of his visit. By early 2011, Sheeran’s career took off. He signed with Asylum/Atlantic Records and began releasing singles like nobody’s business — and not just for himself. In addition to One Direction and Taylor Swift, Sheeran also worked with several international artists including Wiley, JME, Devlin, Sway and Ghetts.
In 2012, Sheeran was named as the opening act for Taylor Swift’s Red Tour which kicked off in March of this year. After the tour was announced, Sheeran publicly spoke about the potential opportunities that could come out of his ties to Swift. “I think Taylor’s just opening up a lot of doors and it’s up to me to make sure that I get through to them,” he told MTV at the time. “It’s a massive opportunity for me and I want to make sure to grab it with both hands.”
The Voice returns for season 5 on Monday, September 23 at 8/7c on NBC with Sheeran’s episodes airing on October 14 and 15.
