EXCLUSIVE Deena Nicole Cortese Opens Up About Her Upcoming Music
August 28, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin
Deena Nicole Cortese joined the season 3 cast of Jersey Shore after housemate Angelina Pivarnick moved on from the series. While some had their doubts that the “new girl” would fit in, she did so and more. Now, over one year after the show wrapped, Deena is back and she’s bringing set of new songs with her.
Days ago, Deena released a teaser video in which she announced that she was planning to launch a singing career. In the video, Deena told fans that she’s had her reservations as far as putting herself out there goes but at this point, she’s ready to do what she loves. ”Yeah, I like to party and yeah, I like to have fun, but there’s also this other side I would love to show people,” she explained. “I’m ready to pursue what’s next for me and for me, this is singing.”
Earlier today, Deena was gracious enough to chat with us here at Hollywoodite about her exciting new venture.
When did you start singing?
I started singing when I was younger. I was part of chorus and I was always in plays.
Who were your favorite acts growing up?
Pink was always my favorite. I love her music and she’s very relatable.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Pink and I like Katy Perry, too. I like how they sing about something that means something to them.
What style of music will you be releasing?
Pop-rock. I want to produce something relatable that I can put all my emotion into.
Are you releasing a full album?
Right now I’m working on a couple of songs and we are going to see where that goes. We are going to keep writing and once we are done we will definitely have enough for an album. I’m working Fire Raven Productions. I’m working with two guys Danny McDonough and Santino Noir and they are collaborating with me. They are helping me really put my emotion into the lyrics and melodies they’re writing with me.
When can fans expect to hear your new music?
I’m definitely taking my time with it. We already have two songs written. I’m sure I’ll put a teaser out in the next couple of months. Then, in about 3-6 months we will debut the first song or two. I just want it to be perfect. I don’t want to rush.
When did you decide to put your doubts aside and give your music career a chance?
It was about three months ago. I was doing a couple of rough-ins about 6 months ago and got a bit discouraged about the “just another reality star” comments, but I feel like I’m ready. I signed with people I’m comfortable with. They get me and it’s been going great.
Deena is really taking her music career seriously. So many reality stars get famous and throw out lackluster material, but not Deena. She’s taking her time and perfecting something that she’s had a passion for since she was a child and we couldn’t be happier for her.
“I’m really excited about it,” Deena tells us in closing. “People will see another side of me other than just Jersey Shore and I hope that people will give it a chance.”
