EXCLUSIVE: Kari Ann Peniche Talks Catfish & Whether She’s Planning Her Own Reality Show

July 3, 2013 by Hollywoodite

Kari Ann Peniche is a reformed bad girl fans first got to know in the tabloids and on reality shows like Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew, Celebrity Rehab, and Sober House. A lot has changed since then, though, as Kari Ann tells Hollywoodite.com EXCLUSIVELY in another interview.

Previously, Kari Ann Peniche spoke with Hollywoodite about how it was a blessing in disguise to be mentioned on Catfish: The TV Show season one where a girl, Rose, used Kari Ann’s photos and name to create an online persona to trick her own friend, Joe. Since the episode aired, the Catfish guys basically did all the hard work in exposing the fake profile and outing Rose. Kari Ann responded with a statement and released a video proving that this is her official Facebook page.

Today, Kari Ann talks to us more about her artwork and the most important part of her life… being a mom to her toddler son, Preston!

The last time we spoke, you were working on several creative projects in addition to keeping busy as a working mother. What have you achieved/ how far have you come since April? Since April, I have been settling into my new place and I built a really cool tree house-themed bedroom for my son with everything from a ball pool to a steering wheel to legos on the wall and even real trees in his room.

I have also been working on a new www.DopeWorks.com website that will be up this week and started to focus on my non-profit, Girls Night Out, which is about empowering women and girls who have been victims of abuse.

Have you ever thought about having more kids, in addition to your son Preston? It’s his birthday soon–as he was 19-mos old two months ago–any exciting plans for your little man’s big day? I would love to have another child! I love being a mom! Preston’s birthday is coming August 22 and he will be 2 years old. I can’t believe how time flies. I think we will probably just spend his birthday with family and friends at home but, in a couple more years, when he’s a little bit older, I am sure he will have some pretty cool birthday parties.

On your episode of Catfish, you were only really mentioned by name. Did the Catfish guys reach out to you personally? Do you wish you were taped for the show for any reason? The Catfish guys did reach out to me but I wouldn’t have wanted to be taped because it really wasn’t about me. The focus was Rose and Joe. I felt that they portrayed me in a nice positive light. I was invited to appear on the Catfish Reunion but I felt that my appearance really wouldn’t add value to their story or show so I declined.

Have you ever been “Catfished”, fooled by an online profile, in your own personal life? No, I haven’t. If anyone was trying to catfish me they wouldn’t really get very far because I don’t get personal online or put a lot of time into making online connections really. The internet can be scary and I try to be as cautious as I can when I do interact with people online.

The show is back for another season, are you watching? Honestly, I don’t watch a lot of TV – I catch an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians every so often or watch E! News, Inside Edition, or Extra if I want some background noise or something, but I don’t watch a lot of TV. Mostly because I don’t have the time or if there is something I want to see I watch it online. So probably not.

You’ve been on several reality shows before, would you ever return to reality television? Have you been approached to do your own show? I have been approached for my own show several times but the timing with what was going on in my life didn’t work out with doing it. But I would return to reality television if the show was right and I liked what it was about.
