Lo and behold, the Fifty Shades of Grey God has spoken! On June 19, E L James, author of the Fifty Shades trilogy, took to her Twitter page to announce that the film adaption of the first book landed its director, Sam Taylor-Johnson.

“I’m delighted & thrilled to let you guys know that Sam Taylor-Johnson has agreed to direct the film of Fifty Shades of Grey,” James tweeted.

“I am excited to be charged with the evolution of Fifty Shades of Grey from page to screen,” Taylor-Johnson said. “For the legions of fans, I want to say that I will honour the power of Erika’s book and the characters of Christian and Anastasia. They are under my skin too.”

If you’ve never heard of Taylor-Johnson, don’t worry you are not alone. The England native and photographer turned director only has a few films under her belt. She director 2009s, Nowhere Boy, a biopic about John Lennon’s childhood.

Michael De Luca, producer of the film said, “Sam’s unique ability to gracefully showcase complex relationships dealing with love, emotion and sexual chemistry make her the ideal director to bring Christian and Anastasia’s relationship to life. E L James’ characters and vivid storytelling require a director who is willing to take risks and push the envelope where needed and Sam is a natural fit.”

Focus Features and Universal Pictures bought the rights to the three book series, Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed in 2012. When news broke in 2012 that the popular series would be turned in feature-length films, fans and critics everywhere rejoiced as suggestions and rumors of who would play the roles of lead characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele made headlines.

While no official word has been released on who will get the promising roles, now that Taylor-Johnson has joined on as director the search for the right Christian and Anastasia should be starting any moment now.
