Was The Glee Project Canceled Because of Cory Monteith’s Death?

More Glee news today. The Glee Project, which finds new talent to appear on the show, has been cancelled after only two seasons.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms, Oxygen will not be going ahead with the show.

TV Guide notes, “The network had planned to keep The Glee Project consistent with Glee’s airing pattern, but because the Fox musical wasn’t renewed until April, there wasn’t enough time to allow for a third season. If The Glee Project had moved forward, there would’ve been at least an 18-month wait before Season 3 was broadcast.”

Oxygen released a statement: ”The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen, but we are extremely proud of this series, which launched the careers of several talented individuals. The show had so much heart and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling.”

NBCUniversal denies that the show’s cancellation is because of Cory Monteith’s death.
