Golden Globe Awards 2012: Photos Of Best & Worst Dressed, Winners List

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA January 15, 2012. The awards went pretty much exactly as expected, but for a few snide/ crude jokes and Madonna’s win, and there was a distinct uniform on the red carpet: white/ pink, silver/ green, or black-on-black.

The Golden Globes red carpet fashion was mostly a miss, honestly. There was so much MEH mixed with so much try-hard styling/ accessorising/ posing. So much glitter, so much leg, so much clavicle. It was the night of the posy try-hard and the too-tight dress.

There were some interesting anecdotes too, from the red carpet. For example, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s daughter, Charlotte, helped pick that clownish Monique Lhuillier gown. And, according to Gawker.com who were live-tweeting the event, Madonna’s dress was so tight because she “thinks she’s a sample size.”

Ricky Gervais was host and he gave a dry, tepid opening monologue that appeared to out Jodie Foster and mock Kim Kardashian for being basic. Seth Rogan made a boner joke. Angelina Jolie scowled a lot, Brad Pitt struggled to walk a little. And Jolie scowled at George Clooney for jokingly mocking Pitt’s “old man” cane. The surprise winner of the night was Madonna, who’d been mocked earlier by Elton John for her slim chance at winning. She won over him, he looked salty about it. Also below is the red carpet with the night’s main attendees: Angelina Jolie, who moved away from black which was a good because everybody wore it, chose a white and red Atelier Versace gown; Brad Pitt limped and looked rather sad for himself; Salma Hayek; Heidi Klum; Michelle Williams; Kate Winslet; George Clooney and filler piece, Stacy Keibler; Sofia Vergara; Rooney Mara; Zooey Deschanel and Emily Deschanel; Kelly Osbourne; Kayte Walsh and Kelsey Grammer, who announced on the night she’s pregnant with twins; Evan Rachel Wood; Charlize Theron; Kate Beckinsale; Natalie Portman; Nicole Kidman; Mila Kunis; Lea Michele; Emma Stone; Jessica Biel, who wasn’t wearing an engagement ring; Madonna; Jessica Alba; Nicole Richie; Ricky Gervais, who operated on a seven-second delay on the live show; Sarah Michelle Gellar, who needs to pick her own dress next year.
