Harry Connick Jr. In Talks To Come Aboard American Idol As Season 13 Judge

American Idol rumors have been circulating the web like crazy in the last couple of months leading up to the production of the show’s 13th season. From Will.i.am to P. Diddy to Kelly Clarkson, there seems to be a new rumor about who will be judging contestants almost daily. However, the latest rumor actually makes some sense.

After negotiations with both Dr. Luke and Scooter Braun fell through, FOX is now reportedly in talks to bring Harry Connick Jr. aboard the hit series. ”Harry is their top choice,” E! News reports. “The negotiations for him to join are currently ongoing.”

As you can see from the photo above, Harry has appeared on American Idol before as a mentor, performer, and guest judge during season 12. At the time of his visit, Harry confirmed that he and the series’ producers had discussed him returning to the show in a more permanent role.

“It’s a fun show. It’s been talked about before, who knows what’ll happen in the future,” Harry told E! in May. “What I’ve done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I’ve had a great time.”

As for what kind of judge Harry would be, he seems to already have that part figured out. “I think you need to be completely honest, and I think you need to be diplomatic,” he explained. “I think there’s no reason to be mean, but it is called being a judge. You have to judge. That’s what you do.”

Earlier this week, it was reported that Dr. Luke had axed the possibility of joining the show over a conflict of interest with his current label. Scooter Braun dropped out after learning that he would be unable to manage the show’s winner.

American Idol season 13 is set to premiere on January 15, 2014.
