Heidi Montag “I spent about $2 million on clothes”
In addition to former The Hills co-stars, Kristin Cavallari and Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt tell the UK’s OK! Magazine that the show was a sham contrived for ratings. In a new interview, the couple talk about spending their fortune and what they think of reality stars of today.
Is it true that you’ve blown $10 million since The Hills?
Heidi: Yes but it’s really easy after paying agents, lawyers and taxes. I was at fashion school and was very excited to afford Louboutins and designer clothes, so a lot of the money went on investing in my fashion style, which ended up being costly. I also spent about $2 million on my album. I definitely thought that would be my future.Did you make any money from the album?
Heidi: I have, but definitely not what I thought it would be.How much did you spend on clothes?
Heidi: Just for me, I spent about $2 million and Spencer spent at least $1 million.
Spencer: I had a room which contained racks of about 100 custom made suits. I don’t even like wearing suits. We were shutting down stores and spending money like we were Brad and Angelina. Our fame egos were way too deep and dark. What was the most extravagant thing you bought?
Spencer: I’d buy things like huge crystals for the house, which needed like a mini crane to be carried inside. They probably weren’t necessary and cost like $1500 each.
I also built a classic Camaro car from 1968, which should have been in a car show. I made it into a race car. Building cars was definitely ridiculous, and I don’t even like old cars, which is quite funny! How much money do you have left?
Spencer: We have enough to keep us going but nothing to get excited about. What do you think about today’s reality stars like Kim Kardashian?
Heidi: I think Kim is great. The Kardashians are definitely for entertainment and I’m pleased for the success they have right now. I watch reality TV and love it. It’s hard to tell if it’s real or fake but it’s definitely entertaining. You’ve mentioned before that a lot of The Hills was staged. Do you think Kim’s relationship with Kayne is real?
Heidi: Yes. Absolutely. When it’s fake it’s more of a setting, it’s like all go here for more planning, but the Kardashians seem really authentic and real and that’s the reason they’re so successful. They’re really open with a lot of the things they’re going through and they don’t try to hide that or glorify it or make it glamorous. It shows their ups and downs and trials and tribulations and that has been the key to their success. After experiencing the limelight yourself at a young age, what do you think about the younger generation of celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber? Do you think they’re too affected by fame?
Heidi: It’s hard to tell because everyone is different. I think they’re handling it very well considering new media and how fast everything moves now so it’s hard to judge them. They’re really the first celebrities of the new age to be famous the way they are so I think it’s impressive that they’re close to their families and keep their values. It’s very hard to do that with the new fame game. You’re both outspoken, have you ever had any celebrity feuds?
Heidi: My only feud was back in the day with Lauren Conrad, but not through Twitter or anything like that. Will you be invited to Lauren Conrad’s wedding?
Heidi: I doubt I’ll be invited to the wedding, but I’ve spoken to her a couple of times on the phone since The Hills and I’ve told her that I’m sorry about the way things have happened and wished we could still be friends one day and she agreed. We’re definitely in a better place since being on The Hills.
