Hugh Hefner: The Lindsay Lohan Playboy Issue Is Breaking Sales Records
December 19, 2011 by Hollywoodite
Playboy cannot seem to decide on its fake sales figures after the leak of the Lindsay Lohan issue that has amounted to little more than a clumsily-orchestrated stunt.
The photos leaked before they could be promoted; the supposed hacker came forward to take partial-credit, only to admit he didn’t do any hacking; the issue has NO official promotion anymore, since Lohan missed her only interview when she missed a flight out of Hawaii (following a vacation, the aim of which was to earn $15,000 cash for doing staged bikini pictures with GSI Media); this weekend, TMZ.com and Fox 411 reported opposite speculative sales figures, leaving people confused about whether the issue was selling.
TMZ.com appeared to have been fed untrue, biased/ loaded numbers from either Lohan’s pimp momager or someone at Playboy, reporting: “Lindsay Lohan definitely gave Playboy their money’s worth, because the issue is selling out all across the country. According to our sources, newsstands in major cities like New York and Los Angeles have had to re-order the issue multiple times. Our sources say Lindsay’s appearance in the mag has also had an effect online as well, where the mag has seen a huge increase in subscription sales.”
By contrast, Fox 411 reported anecdotal evidence that the issue was not selling: “Fox411 spent Friday morning trolling the shelves of newsstands and gas stations from New York to Philadelphia… ‘No one has bought it,’ was the resounding answer to our query at each stop.”
But now Hefner has eluded to a sales smash. Which smells like lies and hype, heavy on the hype: “The Lindsay Lohan January-February Double Issue is breaking sales records,” he said on Twitter. A rep for Playboy would not give numbers, instead saying: “[It’s selling] very well.”
