Hurricane Sandy Destroys Seaside Heights, NJ: Reactions; How Will Jersey Shore Cast Help?

November 6, 2012 by Hollywoodite

It would seem apparent, looking through photos of the destruction, that hurricane Sandy came very close to wiping Seaside Heights, New Jersey, off the map (it got stomped, with businesses closed, damaged, or wrecked completely, and the whole boardwalk gone).

In fact, according to one estimate, 90% of Seaside Heights properties were either destroyed or damaged. That includes people’s homes.

The cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore were quick to offer reactions on Twitter to the devastation.

* Vinny Guadagnino: “Over the last few years it feels like seaside heights has become my second home. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this disaster in seaside and all across the northeast. I’m here to support in any way I can.”

* Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: “Sandy destroyed Seaside… our second home. It’s devastating to see our boardwalk and favorite spots ruined. My prayers go out to everyone affected by the storm.”

* Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio: “My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by hurricane sandy especially our friends and family in Seaside Heights, NJ and a huge thank you to all the men and women who have been working around the clock to protect and help everyone, true heroes!”

* Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola: “The impact hurricane Sandy had on the Jersey Shore is beyond devastating. So many families and homes were destroyed and my heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by this storm.”

* Jenni “JWoww” Farley: “This is a devastating time for the east coast and my prayers are with everyone. I am thinking about my second family at the Jersey Shore and know that we can rebuild and come back stronger.”

Soon after that, JWoww’s fiance Roger Mathews called her out publicly to help the area that made her and her friends rich: “Talk to the rest of your roomies. Let’s do something for Seaside to help. That town was good to you all.”

To which his fiancee, JWoww, responded “…already on it.”

Also, on Monday, it was announced that MTV would be teaming up with a charitable foundation to give back.

It’s only been one week since the storm, but the suffering from Hurricane Sandy is far from over.

With much of New Jersey left in complete devastation after last week’s Hurricane, MTV has decided to team up with non-profit organization Architecture for Humanity to “restore the shore.”

On November 15, MTV will air a one-hour special where members of the hit show Jersey Shore will make special guest appearances to help fundraising efforts. “Restore the Shore” will encourage people nationwide to contribute to the rebuilding of Seaside Heights, the heart of the Jersey Shore and home to the MTV hit.

Architecture for Humanity, who will partner with MTV for these efforts, provides design and construction services to communities in need, specializing in natural disaster relief. With the help of the special, a fund will be created with the sole purpose of rebuilding of the famed Seaside Heights boardwalk, as well as supporting the re-building efforts of businesses and residents in the community that were so tragically affected.

Architecture for Humanity previously helped to rebuild New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and Haiti after the devastating earthquake of 2010.

Acting as the second home to the entire Jersey Shore cast, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Sammi Giancola, Paul “Pauly D” DelVecchio, Vinny Guadagnino and Jenni “JWoww” Farley have already spoken out about the loss of Seaside.

“The impact hurricane Sandy had on the Jersey Shore is beyond devastating,” Sammi said after the hurricane hit the Garden State. “So many families and homes were destroyed and my heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by this storm.”

The special will run live from MTV’s Times Square Studio on Thursday, November 15th at 11p.m. ET. – via In Touch Weekly Magazine.
