In Touch Weekly: Jada Pinkett Stole Marc Anthony From Jennifer Lopez

August 25, 2011 by Hollywoodite

There are so many concurrent things wrong with this week’s cover, it’s almost hard to know where to start. Almost. But let’s start with the supposition that a grown man in complete control of his faculties and free-will can be “stolen” like a passive piece of property from another woman; or that anyone could be “stolen” away from a happy marriage; or that, were any of that a possibility, the woman would be solely to blame.

There are many instances of celebrity infidelity where the woman is more famous or more scrutinised and so she is the focus of these kinds of covers. So that may be why this week’s conjecture’s so sympathetic to the more-famous of the women, Jennifer Lopez. But there’s really no case here… since In Touch Weekly has no story yet. All they have are the claims of a source…

It’s speculated that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith went on the offensive seeking legal council and issuing the world’s most terse statement just to smooth things over before they could PR-spin a real split in their own way/ time.

At this point, the couple and Smith’s son denied a split after ITW claimed their marriage was over. The next day, even though they’ve not been photographed together for months, if only because they’re not Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and there’s no reason to catalog their every move, the couple were photographed together dryly mugging as a couple for the paparazzi. Because couples who stage photos never break-up.

There were claims from ITW that the supposed split was caused by an affair with Marc Anthony, Lopez’s estranged husband. Which reads as little more than an attempt to lump together the Summer’s two biggest couple scandals using the fact Pinkett-Smith and Anthony worked on a movie together. Both sides denied an affair. Because, you know, there wasn’t one. But that’s not stopping ITW trying its hardest.

Apparently Jada Pinkett Smith and Marc Anthony co-star on HawthoRNe and their characters have quite a lot of sex. Their respective spouses have always said they were fine with this, and they’ve all been close for years.

For the past few months Will has been living at their Malibu mansion with the kids while Jada has been staying at their spare mansion in Hidden Hills. Earlier this month, he arrived at Jada’s home “under the cover of darkness” and “burst inside.” It’s unclear what he saw, but Marc was there and Will “left the house crying,” according to an insider. The next day, Jada moved more things out of the Malibu home and Will fired several staffers because he suspected that they had covered up Jada’s affair. The stars’ reps deny all of this. – via Jezebel.

TMZ.com also weighs in, trying its hardest to squash rumours of an affair, going so far as to grill on-set sources for a rundown of every interaction between the two.

Multiple members of the crew that work on “HawthoRNe” tell TMZ … it was clear to everyone that Jada Pinkett Smith and Marc Anthony were not intimate on the set.

The crew members we spoke with say… they never saw anything inappropriate occur on the set. They add… it seemed as if Jada and Marc went out of their way to squelch rumors. They would never run their lines together in their trailers but rather would do it out in the open, with an acting coach present.

And three crew members noted that Will Smith would sometimes come to the set while Jada was filming and, as one of them put it, “It looked like they were on their honeymoon.” No one we spoke with saw any conflict between the two. – via TMZ.

So, basically there was no affair and the two made sure they were never alone together and they never even ran lines without a witness or a spouse within earshot. This is reminiscent of a Vanity Fair interview with Johnny Depp where he opined the same of working with Angelina Jolie; they literally never spent any time together or even spoke on set, knowing any interaction would be spun into a falsified account of an affair. Depp told VF January 2011, 2″[We had] to hide, sometimes not even being able to talk to each other in public because someone will take a photograph and it will be misconstrued and turned into some other ****.”
