Cameron Diaz will be stepping into some interesting shoes in the near future.

The blonde beauty will be taking on the role of the orphan torturer Miss Hannigan in the Annie remake. The Hollywood Reporter announced the news on Wednesday.

Diaz is yet another star name added to the list in this remake. In addition to Jay-Z and Will Smith producing, Jamie Foxx is set to play a modern Daddy Warbucks in the former of billionaire Benjamin Stacks. The title role went to Quvenzhane Wallis, the nine year old who stunned the world in Beasts of the Southern Wild. Wallis, who graced the red carpets last season with adorable puppy purses, was the youngest actress nominated for an Academy Award.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures just concluded the negotiations with Cameron Diaz today for the updated moppet movie musical starting production in the fall for a Christmas 2014 release. Sandra Bullock had been in talks for the role in Annie but pulled out recently. Beasts Of The Southern Wild‘s Quvenzhane Wallis, who became the youngest actress ever to receive a Best Actress Oscar nomination, is on board to play the iconic orphan, and Best Actor Oscar winner for Ray, Jamie Foxx, is Daddy Warbucks in the classic comic strip-turned-musical being produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z and directed by Will Gluck. I think Diaz is an inspired choice to play the mean lady who runs the orphanage after the actress strutted her nasty in Sony’s Bad Teacher and a few other choice roles. – via Deadline.

Sandra Bullock’s name had been tossed around for the role of Miss Hannigan, but it was ultimate Diaz who inked the deal with Sony.

Previously, Carol Burnett had played the role in the 1982 version.
