Jennifer Hudson & Chaka Khan To Sing Whitney Houston Grammys Tribute

Although Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich says “We’re definitely going to do something, but in some ways it’s too fresh and too early to do a full-blown tribute,” there will be some kind of homage paid to the late Whitney Houston who passed away one day before the 2012 awards.

Entertainment Tonight broke the news that Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan would perform what Ehrlich called a ”respectful musical tribute” at the February 12 event.

LA Times and USA Today report that something small will be put together on 24-hours notice for the CBS broadcast on Sunday night.

Ehrlich confirms he contacted Grammy/ Oscar-winner Hudson to perform: “I asked her if she’d come, and we’re trying to figure out what she’ll do to honor [Whitney]. After all, [Whitney] was so associated with the Grammys as a performer and as a winner.”

LL Cool J, the first solo host in eight years, may also give a verbal tribute adds Ehrlich: “[It’s] both sad and fortuitous, as LL is in a position to talk about her… He’s trying to see what exactly he’ll say, but I’m glad he’s able to do so.”

Hudson previously performed a homage for the 2010 BET Awards where she sang I Will Always Love You. Houston watched and applauded from the audience and looked very pleased.

** UPDATE: Hudson basically did the same again, and performed a solo of Houston’s version of I Will Always Love You.
