The marriage of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony is over. Well, she got her two babies within wedlock and that was probably all she wanted from him anyway. In an announcement that not one person claims to have seen coming, the former couple and parents of twins confirm their marriage has ended and one can infer they will divorce.
After seven years of marriage, it’s over for Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. “We have decided to end our marriage,” they tell PEOPLE in a joint statement. “This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.” Lopez, 41, and Anthony, 42, wed in June 2004 in a casual – and secret – ceremony at Lopez’s Beverly Hills home. They have two children, 3-year-old twins Max and Emme. – via People.
This will be Jennifer’s THIRD divorce — she was first married in 1997 to Ojani Noa, and again in 2001 to her backup dancer Cris Judd. This will be Marc’s second divorce. The couple got married in 2004 in their Beverly Hills home. They have two children. Marc and JLo renewed their vows just last year on their 6th anniversary — and back in May, they gave a steamy performance together on the season finale of “American Idol.” – via TMZ.
Here’s the thing. A lot of married celebrities separate/ split and it often wouldn’t mean anything – Pink separated from her husband and now they’re back together with a baby, Courteney Cox and David David Arquette split months ago but they’re not yet divorced (with Cox undecided whether she wants Arquette back).
Statements are usually carefully-worded to ensure you know that the end of the marriage is a technicality; they’re still BFFs who’ll “friends with benefits” each other on occasions. It’s all passive-aggressive and rosy; vague even. Not this statement. From this couple, it’s like they’ve been faking the last eight weeks of their marriage in particular and like they’ve been working out details of the split and joint custody of their kids before separating.
It has been noted that Lopez took her mother to last week’s BAFTA event where she hogged the attention of the royal couple – Anthony wasn’t there, so they’ve been apart at least one week. They were seen on the red carpet together, happy as clams, as recently as 6 June for the Samsung Hope for Children 2011 event in New York City. And they were sitting together as Simon Fuller received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 23. They were cuddling on the red carpet, like everything was great. What happened in that time-frame to split them – or, how fake were they being to stop the chatter on page Six?
