Jennifer Lopez In Talks To Replace Mariah Carey as a Judge on American Idol

June 4, 2013 by Hollywoodite

Jennifer Lopez previously tried to mitigate reports that she had been fired along with Steven Tyler from American Idol by publicly quitting immediately after reports surfaced that she would not be coming back for another season.

Mariah Carey essentially replaced Lopez in a lucrative deal that initially promised she would be the only woman on the judging panel. However, Fox lied to Carey to get her to sign then quickly hired Nicki Minaj behind Carey’s back. Leading to consternation, resentment, and nearly physical violence on set.

The aggravation spelled doom for the ratings as, among other things, viewers didn’t really want to watch women b**ch each other out for an hour every night. And now the entire judging panel including stalwart Randy Jackson has been cleared out. In their place, among others who are as yet unnamed, Lopez will almost certainly be returning.

“J.LO’s manager, Benny Medina, was in talks with FOX even before Mariah and Nicki announced their departures last week,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “Benny told FOX that she does indeed want to return. They’re talking. Negotiations are in their infant stages, but they’re underway to get her back to the judges’ table.”

“It unlikely that this season’s fourth judge, Keith Urban, will also stick around,” a network insider said. “The show needs an overhaul.”
